What is R & R ?

R & R means Repairs & rehabilitation of the distress structures. A classic example of distress, is the one, developed due to corrosion of steel in concrete. It is a problem of great concern. In humid and saline atmosphere the corrosion rate shoots manifold and this develops as a threat to the structure. It can be identified well in advance, before concrete looses its integrity & fails.

Many similar Causes exist which have caused the concrete to detoriate, such structure can be repaired, provided proper and quick counter actions are taken to repair. REPAIRS PROLONG THE LIFE OF STRUCTURES AND ENHANCE ITS USAGE.

Methodology

Evaluation of distress in structure is a complex exercise. To begin with, we perform condition surveys of the affected structure. A hypothesis as to the cause is evolved based on the evaluation and extend of damage. This defines the status of the structure.

The hypothesis is then subjected to verification by partial and total non destructive field tests. Various parameters and indices (like carbonation depth, corrosion potential, integrity of the section, surface strenght, etc.,) of the health of concrete are defined. This leads us to classify the type of damages and its causes. Once the cause is defined, the remedial measures that best address the defects are defined and evolved.

A detailed rectification process is outlined and the work scope is defined along with complete bill of quantity for the repair works. Tender specifications are drafted and the document as required is compiled.


Our speciality

The range of testing that can be conducted in house include all diagnostic tests required to define the various parameters to evaluate the nature and extend of damage. Concrete detoriates due to atmospheric gaseous attack externally and within the cement aggregates matrix. Enviromental pollution, marine atmosphere, chemicals surrounding, lead to constant degradation of the strength of concrete and steel.

A faulty structure adds on to the premature aggravation of the problem. We undertake reinforcement corrosion test, cover meter survey to locate the position and depth of reinforced steel. Corrosion potential mapping using half cell electrode, breaking out small section & combination tests help us to determine degree of corrosion. Concrete quality & in- situ strength is assesed by ultrasonic pulse velocity measurements to understand low modules, density and micro cracking. Rebound hammer indicate surface hardness.


Reporting system

On exhaustive analysis using various rigorous tests, the team head along with the involved engineers conclude the exact problems and the possible solutions are worked out considering the various boundary conditions involved in the works including economy, logistics and time duration. Alternative solutions are worked out based on minimum repair requirements and also on the best allocations of the funds.


Project Control

If any client wish to continue the project till a satisfactorily level of repair has been done by the external agency hired by the client. We do offer our services also till the execution of the project to include corrective supervision, inspection, certification, cost justification and revaluation of asset. This forms an immportant part of our overall responsiveness towards any rehabilitation project.
